“Those who hike can’t imagine a fall without at least a few mountain hiking trips…This fall, Blue Cross and Blue Shield ofo N.C. and the NC State Parks, which is celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the state parks system, are launching Hike NC!, a new community initiative that will remove some of the barriers to hiking and encourage North Carolinians to get moving.
…Hike NC! is a series of more than 60 guided hikes in North Carolina’s state parks and nature preserves, led by the state’s top hiking and nature experts. The program is for all ages, from kids to teens to adults and seniors, regardless of fitness level or hiking experience. Each hike will be led by a park ranger or trained guide. The guided hikes are aimed at making it easier for people to try hiking for the first time, enjoy time in nature with friendls, family and pets, experience natural areas and the scenery and colors of fall, and learn about the plants and animals in the state parks and nature preserves….In addition to helping people get active outdoors, Hike NC! is also part of Blue Cross’ efforts to promote health and well-being across the satee. People who are physically active are at lower risk for chronic conditions and diseases, cinuding heart disease, stroke and diabetes.”
