NC Incentives & Tax Credits THIS WEEKEND!

Sales Tax Holiday for Energy Efficient Appliances
Certain EnergyStar® certified appliances are exempt from the sales and use tax if purchased during the first weekend in November.  Eligible appliances include:

  • clothes washers;
  • refrigerators and freezers;
  • central air conditioners and window air conditioners;
  • air-source or geothermal heat pumps;
  • ceiling fans;
  • dehumidifiers; and
  • programmable thermostats.

Solar Energy Systems Property Tax Abatement
Eighty percent of the appraised value of a solar energy system is excluded from the property tax base for any property.  A “solar energy system” is defined as all equipment “used directly and exclusively for the conversion of solar energy to electricity.”

The maximum credit for property installed on residential property is:

  • $1,400 per dwelling unit for solar energy equipment for domestic water heating, including pool heating;
  • $3,500 per dwelling unit for solar energy equipment for active space heating, combined active space and domestic hot water systems, and passive space heating; and
  • $10,500 per installation for any other renewable energy property. The credit will not be effective for property installed after January 1, 2011.
